I have a soft spot for calico cats. Their unique multi-colored fur always catches my eye and it’s hard not to adore them instantly. One rescued kitten, Matilda, stole her owner’s heart immediately with her beautiful fluff and cool markings. It’s amazing how sometimes we can feel a connection to a cat we see online and just know that they’re the one for us.
Matilda’s new owner couldn’t believe she was still available for adoption with her irresistible charm. And now, with a new name, Freya the Fluff has stolen the hearts of many on Instagram. Her owner shared that they adopted her earlier this year, driving almost two hours to bring her home. Despite the long drive, Freya was calm and brave, loving people and exploring her new surroundings. She was found climbing someone’s window screen and brought into a rescue at just 8 weeks old. When her owner saw her little orange face on Petfinder, she knew she had to have her.
What’s the story behind how you met Freya?
I had been searching for a kitten for a few months and was always browsing online. One day, I stumbled upon an adoption event and saw Freya with her adorable orange face. I fell in love at first sight and immediately showed her to my fiancé, who was also smitten. Despite thinking that there would be tons of applications for her, we decided to try our luck and apply. To our surprise, we were chosen to give Freya a forever home, and we knew it was meant to be.
How did Freya end up with her name?
When we first got Freya, her rescue name was Matilda, which we knew wouldn’t suit her. I had a few days to come up with a new name before we brought her home, and at first, I was set on Aelin. But once we had her, we realized it didn’t quite fit. That’s when my fiancé suggested naming her after a character from one of my favorite TV shows, The Originals – Freya. We gave it a try and as soon as we called her by her new name, she responded with the tiniest meow, confirming that it was the perfect fit for her.
Can you describe Freya’s character?
Let me introduce you to the fearless kitten, Freya! She radiates confidence and fearlessness. However, she also has a tender heart and adores human companionship. Freya will snuggle up to you and keep an eye on your every move throughout the house.
What activities does Freya enjoy most?
Freya is a nature enthusiast and loves nothing more than gazing out of the window, observing the birds and squirrels outside. She is an eager learner too, having mastered the ‘sit’ command already. We are currently training her to ‘lie down’ and carry her backpack. Freya also enjoys playing around!
Is there any furry companion residing with her at home?
Freya shares her abode with a 10-year-old canine sibling, Kayden, and a feline friend named Dior.
What distinguishes Freya from other cats?
Freya’s remarkable trait is her affectionate nature towards humans. She is undeniably the most amicable cat I have ever encountered. Whenever she encounters someone new, she approaches them with open paws and leans on them for cuddles!
